Lars Grills Dr. Zybach on Barred Owls, Spotted Owls, Global Warming & Oregon Wildfires

Recorded and Transcribed Interviews, July 29, 2013 and July 28, 2014

The following two live radio interviews by Lars Larson with Dr. Bob Zybach regarding forest and wildfire management were made almost exactly on year apart, on a Monday at 1:00 PM. The first interview regarded recent federal decisions to kill more than 3,000 barred "hoot owls" because they were directly competing with their spotted cousins for "habitat":

The second interview had to do with the fact that so much of the designated "spotted owl habitat" was being destroyed in ever-increasingly more expensive and more dstructive catastrophic wildfires -- and that the federal government was blaming this irony on "Global Warming" rather than documented mismanagement of public resources:

Background & Aftermath

The barred owl/spotted owl interview was based on an earlier blog discussion and a subsequent magazine article:

The spotted owl interview was followed by two poorly received, yet well-attended, presentations at Oregon State University. The first was on December 5, 2013 to the College of Forestry grad students, also attended by faculty and staff (PPT_39_MB; PDF_6.3_MB); and the second was on January 29, 2014 to the Department of Fish & Wildlife grads, faculty, and staff (PPT_38_MB; PDF_6.0_MB).

The Global Warming/Oregon wildfires interview was based on a April 5, 2007 radio interview with Josh Meredith on KGAL 1580 AM in Albany, Oregon:

The Oregon wildfires interview was followed by a presentation to the Bend C;V;T Group:
